Chapter 12
37 But though he had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in him, 38 so that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said: "Lord, who has believed our hearing? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" 39 For this reason they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: 40 He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes, understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them. 41 These things Isaiah said because he saw his glory and spoke about him. 42 Nevertheless, many even of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue. 43 for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God. 44 Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me does not believe in me but in the one who sent me." 45 Whoever sees me sees the one who sent me. 46 I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me may not remain in the darkness. 47 And if anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 The one rejecting me and not taking my words has the one judging him: the word which I spoke, that one judges him on the last day. 49 because I have not spoken from myself, but the Father who sent me—he has given me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. Therefore, what I speak, just as the Father has spoken to me, so I speak.
